About the Course

Learn to draw using graphite, charcoal and colour. Start with basics, tone, line and proportion.... develop further drawing skills each term. Learn at your own pace. A mix of still life , found objects and photographs. We will start in graphite and charcoal , later on try drawing using  pastels, colour pencils, etc. There will be some theory as we go .   We will have fun .


Start by bringing  a good quality A4 cartridge paper pad. A couple of pencils - strength 2B and 6B and a HB. Also a couple of Faber Castell soft grey putty rubbers..  Any other art stuff you have such as pastels .We will add items as we go...bring a mug if you want a cuppa.


What you will Learn

  • How to simplify and use elements of a photograph to create an interesting drawing

  • Composition and tonal variation ( darks and lights)

  • Observational drawing, angles and proportions.

  • Perspective and foreshortening. Keep it simple!

  • Shading techniques.

  • Using the magic rubber to create light in your work

  • Colour in terms of dark/light rather than hue. 

  • How to relax and express your creative drive.

Grant Eyre is a visual artist with a working career as a civil
draftsman followed by a retirement learning to paint and
draw. His journey in Art has lead to four First Prizes in
Drawing, several Highly Commended awards , with works
in private collections.
